about
This song details the hardships resulting from one of Australia's most common mental health disorders; depression. Affecting 1 million adults in Australia each year, with it being estimated that one in every sixteen young Australians face the health disorder, depression is extremely prevalent in our Australian society.
This song "Give Up (feat. Hannah Guresman, Luke Hansen) attempts to express one extreme aspect of depression when it is taken too far. The song follows the journey of a male and female partner whom, amidst loss, try so hard to reconnect after an overdose incident takes the life of another.
At the end of the day, all I hope for is for people to gain a greater understanding of depression itself, and the effect it can have on others.
lyrics
I'll tell you a story of those good old days
We would laugh together in sunset haze
As we moved closer hands on our sides
You told me something, looked into my eyes
Oh darling for all I've known
You're the greatest beauty I have bestowed
I would wait the rest of my life
Cause I'll be in love till the day that I die
The world was silent, I fell faster for you
You were something special, wonderful too
You would love me till the day that I die
And here I say so will I
Now you're lying across the floor
Trying to grasp the last breath you'd never caught
So please. Darling. Don't
Don't give up on me now
Oh ah
I remember that time, many years ago
We sang stupid songs as you sailed on that boat
I would be captain and you'd be my guide
I'd give you a compass you'd give a ride
Picture that moment at the high school dance
We spun round in circles, hands in hands
Fingers clasp the open jar
Body still, slow beating heart
Still beautiful and there you lie
The world needs you and so do I
You're something special, breathtaking too and don't
Don't give up on me now
Oh ah
The flowers were laid, a silence swept through
Nothing but the wind as people withdrew
A mother couldnt bring herself to goodbye
Her baby was gone before her time
A father knelt down and bowed his head
Felt it was his fault his daughter was no longer there
Everyone felt the weight of a life
A girl who had given so much light
A lover cried at his lover's grave
One last time he stopped to say
I will love you till the day that I die
So why darling Why did you give up on me now
I love you I love you I love you I love you
I will love you till the day I die
Your soul's touched the sky, but together we'll ride
Up into the air, as you tell me the tales
Of our future and past in the good old days
And tell me that when I cry
You'll dry my tears, you'll be at my side
Hold me like you did once before
Hold me like you did when you never saw
Your life in it's purpose, your beautiful mind
Despite all the world seeming so unkind
Taking the light doesn't end the pain
It makes it dark in someone else's brain
But I will love you till the day that I die
Now you're gone and I'm alone and I wish that I'd die
