Dialogue: Big Niko (RP): Well good morning, you are tuning into Sydney’s no.1 radio station with your one and only host 'Big Niko'. Today on our show, we have a special guest with us. To many, you know him as Lochie Stevens, but for everyone else, he is Keonico. Good morning Lochie. Lochie (L): Good morning. RP: So Lochie, tell the listeners a little bit about yourself. What music do you make? L: Yeah, well I like to think I make chilled electronic music. RP: Like Flume yeah? L: Kind of. More like say Bonobo. RP: Bonobo hey? L: Yeah, I think so… I mean, I’m not entirely sure. I make the music I want to make at the end of the day. RP: Lochie, I know you want to be creative and all, but isn’t it also important you make music that’s appealing? That people other than yourself like? L: That is true, but – RP: Sorry to stop you there Lochie, we have a caller that’s come through. ‘Hello Sir.’ Caller A (CA): ‘Hey man. What’s up?’ RP: We are all great thanks. You have a question for Keonico. CA: Yeah, man I listened to your last album and all. Like where are the bangers bro? No bangers at all? L: Yeah well it wasn’t really – RP: Sorry to cut you off again Lochie, we have another caller on the line. ‘You’re on air’ Caller B (CB): Hi there. Yeah, I was really hoping on the last album there would be some nice singing songs. Not acoustic stuff, just nice vocal songs with lovely backing instruments. CA: Yeah man, maybe even some rap stuff. That’d be sick. Why don’t you do that? CB: Yeah, I agree. RP: Wow, thank you callers for that contribution. What do you think of all this? It seems people are demanding you change. L: You know what. Why don’t I? Pass me that AUX chord would ya. Let me try being someone else for once.

Lyrics Verse A: Hate the competition, everything’s race And you you wanted a jump start, to get you in first place Bribing all your money away you were counting on this But darlin what’s your hurry when this opportunity’s a miss Can’t believe, you’re so mercenary All you care about is, fooling me Chorus: Doesn’t matter what you say to me, I don’t go crazy about your money Don’t go waving your bills at me, it’s not the numbers that I can see Doesn’t matter what you say to me, I don’t need your generosity Don’t go telling me who to be I don’t need anyone’s validity Verse B: Loving the frustration, the look is on your face You cannot seem to take it, how’s betrayal taste? How does it feel, home made of steel Then how can a blow it in, your home, it isn’t real I’m taking out a twenty, but you, you own the bank You’ve gotten yourself plenty, but your sanity’s at stake My morals are what i live by but you, you made yours up So you trick me into trusting you then you mess me up My bed is made of paper but yours is made of bills At least I can sleep at night you know that money kills And yeah i know I worry bout what the future holds But I’m not feeling sorry, your futures been and gone Can’t believe you’re so mercenary All you care about is fooling me (Refrain) Chorus: Doesn’t matter what you say to me I don’t go crazy about your money Don’t go waving your bills at me It’s not the numbers that I can see Doesn’t matter what you say to me I don’t need your generosity Don’t go telling me who to be I don’t need anyone’s validity

CC: It’s got a really crazy energy, and that was cool. L: Wow! Thank you so much! I can’t believe this is really Flume and not just a voice recording taken from a Flume interview on the internet. RP: Well, it seems like Flume wants to hear some more Keonico. Can you play some more stuff Lochie? L: Ummm, yeah sure. Let’s try this.

Lyrics: Verse A: Seeing you and her the other night, guess that you could say i didn’t mind it was the way that she looked at you, there was no affection in her eyes and everything she is, is everything I was I know you got a type not admitting it’s your loss You used to be the player and now your being played And I really don’t know if I would say CHORUS I, I’m so sorry that your girl doesn’t love you anymore And i, I’m so sorry that your girl doesn’t love you anymore Verse B: And I guess it’s hard to take, so take it in a pill It’s difficult to swallow the fact that this is real I used to see you tripping, see you power tripping But now you just seem littler to me I, I’ve been dreaming of you, cause it’s better than seeing you face to face With her, your trophy on the side, the one you wouldn’t dare to replace CHORUS I, I’m so sorry that your girl doesn’t love you anymore And i, I’m so sorry that your girl doesn’t love you anymore

about

When people said "Keonico should sound more like ____ ", well I took that literally. This album is both about listening to what people want Keonico to sound like, as well as paying tribute to those artists who inspire my work everyday.

I started this record back in August 2018 on a trip to the Blue Mountains. It begun with the two songs "Stay Young" and "Club Love". I spent hours trying to put these two songs together and the thing that caught my attention was how different they sounded. "Stay Young" was very chilled / ODESZA inspired, whilst "Club Love" was more deep house / Golden Features sounding. What followed was a near complete re-imagining of what I thought Keonico could be. I wanted to explore where I could take my music; grow past my "chill electronic" name that I for some reason attached to myself. Be Someone Else was the result of that.

I must have spent at least 80 or 90 hours working on this project; that be in song production, vocal editing, track mixing, sound engineering, album design, photography, launching musical collaborations and so on. It was huge! However, I wanted this project to feel 'big', 'dense' and 'full'. It signified to me the true expression of my creativity as an artist. And, if I'm being perfectly honest, this project was where I wanted Keonico to be when I first launched Ableton Live on my laptop back in 2016. I've learnt so many things from the past six months and have been truly overwhelmed by how supportive my mates and family have been with my new music (in particular, Charlie, Ang, Jack, Wye-yern, Nick, Sam, Krantik and Josh). If anything, this album makes me so excited to see where I'll take my music in the future. Maybe I'll be making Hardstyle???

So yeah, aside from all that, I really hope you enjoy this album. It means so much to me that you are willing to spend your time listening to this, even if it's only for one or two songs. And if you'd like, please feel free to share this with your friends, family and whoever. It's free and completely for you to enjoy.

P.S. Huge thanks to Gregory Haynes (Alleyne), Hannah Schmidli, Tom Owens (Flxgod), and Brendan Zacharias (Anthony Fade & Assembler Code) for their help with putting this record together. Without them, the album would be nowhere near where it is today.
